Meet the Selection Committee for the Inaugural Leslie & Burke Legacy Award!

We are incredibly grateful to our selection committee members; Ellen Leslie, Diana Ellis, Kate Bium, Jacqueline Neligan and Jenny Pedwell, for dedicating their time to reviewing the fantastic nominations we’ve received. The submission comments have been deeply moving, and we’re excited that this award will highlight the valuable work of staff, volunteers, and board members in our communities.

The process is still ongoing, and we eagerly look forward to announcing the recipient of the award at FRP-BC’s AGM & Training Event on September 26th, 2024. Stay tuned!

Selection Committee Members:

Ellen Leslie – Co-founder of West Side Family Place in 1973. We’re delighted Ellen is part of the first selection committee, allowing us to honour her legacy by recognizing those who continue to follow in her footsteps.

Diana Ellis – Former Board Director at West Side Family Place, who worked alongside Ellen in the 1980s. Diana spent the next 35 years working with FRPs throughout BC as a Consultant on Planning, Evaluation and Action Research. We’re grateful she has returned to support FRPs once again.

Kate Buim – Knowledge Broker, Knowledge-to-Action Team at the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP, UBC), with a wealth of in-depth knowledge about the needs and services available to young families.

Jacqueline Neligan – Executive Director at Ladysmith Family & Friends, bringing her firsthand experience from the front lines of community support for young families.

Jenny Pedwell – Executive Director at Princeton Family Services Society, who brings decades of experience in community work to the committee.
