FRP-BC is Seeking New Board Members!

Family Resource Programs of BC (FRP-BC) is a provincial-wide membership organization dedicated to promoting and supporting Family Resource Programs (FRPs) and their host agencies. FRPs are community hubs that enhance and support the development of healthy families with children, prenatal to 6 years old. Our members are FRP staff at centres such as Family Places, Family Centres, Military Family Resource Centres, Early Years Centres, Parent/Family Literacy Centres and Neighbourhood Houses.

Our mission is to support Family Resource Program Agencies to build their capacity to better serve BC families. Our guiding principles are community-based solutions, connections, quality services, equity, and integrity. FRP-BC values regional representation and representation of the families we serve.

The Board of Directors provides overall direction, vision, and support to Family Resource Programs of BC (FRP-BC). Board members are the fiduciary body responsible for all decisions made on behalf of Family Resource Programs of BC (FRP-BC). These decisions focus on overall governance issues such as strategic planning, fundraising and development, finance, legal matters, and oversight of the Provincial Director.

The newly elected board assumes responsibility immediately after the Annual General Meeting (September 26, 2024). Ideally, the Board candidate will be available to attend this AGM and Board training in person in Kelowna. FRP-BC is committed to Board diversity. We strive to be a welcoming and friendly board where new ideas are welcomed.

Time & Term Commitment: Board Members can expect to volunteer approximately 2-3 hours per month for a two-year term. This time commitment includes monthly board meetings and some possible work between meetings. Attendance at the Annual General Meeting (this year in Kelowna, BC) is also required.

Board of Director’s Role:

  • Serve as a knowledge centre in any of the following areas: board governance, the not-for-profit sector, finance, human resources, member engagement, collaborative work, training, or fund development. • Commit to the mission of FRP-BC, the strategic plan and oversee the plan’s success
  • Provide adequate supervision and support to the Provincial Director
  • Fulfill the legal accountability for its operations
  • Create relationships with the community to further the organization’s mission, create financial support and increase board awareness
  • Be able & willing to travel (expenses paid) once a year for an Annual General Meeting & training event

Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a remote team.
  • Familiarity with board governance is preferred; previous experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Ability to think strategically at both organizational and programmatic levels, aligned with FRP-BC’s Strategic Plan and its evolution.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness and strong communication skills.
  • Connected with the community or region in the Early Years or Community Programming sector.
  • Knowledge of food justice work is an asset.
  • Passionate about the sector and its impact on families and communities, with knowledge of Family Resource Programs and FRP-BC.
  • Commitment to attend up to 8 meetings a year (one in person), participate in committees, and be available via Zoom.
  • Skills in the early years/neighbourhood house/family place sector, human resources, fundraising, finance, and Indigenous reconciliation are valued but not required.
