    FRP offers child directed play-based learning opportunities that encourage developmentally appropriate free play.

    Benchmark Quality Indicators

    • Variety of age appropriate quality toys and resources and activities are accessible.
    • The environment has child-oriented features:
      • Grouped age appropriate toys and equipment for the ages and stages of child development
      • Child sized tables and chairs
    • The outdoor area is safe with outdoor age appropriate toys and equipment.
    • FRP ensures the free play sessions are safe and peaceful.

    Innovation and Promising Practices

    • FRP communicates to parents the importance of free play and provides spaces for parents to interact with their children as staff model to parents how to facilitate free play.
    • FRP intentionally designs the environment to promote play-based learning in a number of areas of development.
